He married Violet Eva Smith on 03/12/1916 in Osmington. The son of William Dawe, of Osmington, Weymouth; husband of Violet Eva Dawe, of 125, Longhurst Rd., Lewisham, London. Mother: Mrs Annie Dawe, Hill Farm, Corfe Mullen Wimborne Dorset
Sisters Lillian and Dorothy.

He was killed or died as a direct result of enemy action off the Shetland islands, his body was not recovered for burial.
Further Information:
  • Charles is Commemorated on Plymouth Naval Memorial
  • His elder brother Geoffrey was also killed in the conflict in 1915
  • His widow Violet remarried a fireman called William Wadman and moved to Berkshire where she died in 1985.
Before the war Charles was working as a farm labourer.  His service record lists him as 5ft 10.5 inches tall with brown hair and grey eyes with very good character and ability.
